The Result

The College had to work to a very tight timescale for completion of the process and had to amend certain parts of the process to take account of changes requested by its sponsoring Department. Clarendon demonstrated considerable flexibility in amending the approach in line with these changes and in enabling the selection panel to proceed quickly and effectively while ensuring compliance at all stages with public sector and other requirements. Clarendon established a thoroughly professional relationship with the selection panel from the outset, provided sound advice and guidance and ensured that the total process was undertaken fairly, efficiently and effectively. The result was an excellent outcome, achieved within budget, within the required timescale, and to the complete satisfaction of the College.

The Brief

South West College required professional support in the recruitment of a Chief Executive to include:

  • Provision of all documentation and administrative support in the recruitment process;
  • Managing and organising all aspects of shortlisting and interviews;
  • Communicating with candidates to inform them of the progress of their application at each stage of the recruitment process;
  • Attending selection panel meetings, shortlisting meetings and interviews;
  • Assisting in the process of feedback to candidates as requested and dealing with follow up queries;
  • Ensuring Governing Body compliance with all statutory requirements.

The Process

Following an initial meeting between the selection panel and Clarendon to agree a common understanding of the College’s requirements, Clarendon performed an initial sift of applications, made recommendations to the selection panel; held first stage interviews, presented further recommendations for final stage interview; issued a Leadership Profile Questionnaire and provided an analysis; worked with the selection panel to devise interview questions and drafted all documentation for use at interview. On the day of the interviews, Clarendon made all necessary arrangements for candidates’ preparation of the unseen presentation; undertook the complete process of questioning the candidates, thereby enabling the selection panel to focus entirely on candidate assessment; facilitated the process of discussing candidates’ performance and reaching an agreed outcome, and ensured that all necessary documentation was completed. Clarendon also communicated with candidates as appropriate at all stages of the process.
