Head of Design Off-Site Construction
Our client specialises in the manufacture of offsite timber frame systems for the construction sector across the UK and Ireland. This business, part of a major construction and investment group, has a strong reputation for product quality, innovation and is delivering rapid-build homes for a range of domestic and leisure uses. The company is now ideally positioned to exploit the considerable growth potential offsite manufacture (OSM) and application of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) has within the construction sector, particularly within housebuilding.
The nature of the OSM and MMC sectors requires the company to be “design led” with a clear focus on value engineering, ease of manufacture and installation. The role of Head of Design is a critical one within the business. It reports to the Managing Director and is a critical role within the leadership team. It must ensure that the design function is fully integrated across all key functions of the business – Commercial, Manufacture, Installation – with an emphasis on design for manufacture, buildability and conformance with existing and future building codes.
The Head of Design will provide leadership and mentoring to the team, allocating resources effectively to provide a comprehensive design service to external customers and internally with manufacture and installation functions. You will engage with customers to translate traditional build concepts into designs for manufacture, bringing innovation and value engineering to deliver projects that are high quality, cost effective to manufacture and can be efficiently installed on site.
You must have five years’ construction design, structural engineering or architectural related discipline and have successfully delivered a role that involves the allocation of resources and the performance management of a team. Knowledge of, or exposure to, OSM or MMC techniques would be a distinct advantage. An understanding of building regulations, quality standards and industry codes of practice are essential.
More importantly you will have the passion and collaborative approach that will allow you to contribute significantly across the senior team, bringing creativity and innovation that will further differentiate an already impressive portfolio of products.
