In September 2018, Ulster Carpets unveiled a new dyehouse and energy centre in Portadown, the first stage of a £40 million capital investment and regeneration programme. The state-of-the-art facility has replaced traditional dyeing methods with innovative technology which will improve energy efficiency. This sets the precedent for the future for Ulster Carpets with plans for a new Finishing Line and Weaving Technology in Portadown.

Key to driving their continued evolution is the role of Operations Director. Reporting to the Managing Director, the role will encompass full responsibility for manufacturing and operations, continuous improvement and driving change in Northern Ireland. The successful candidate will support strategies, goals and polices established by the Holding Board and make a significant contribution to the Board of Directors.

The successful candidate should possess the following characteristics and skills:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience at senior leadership level in a large manufacturing environment with exposure to engineering, contributing to shaping and executing a strategic plan that has delivered operational performance and customer excellence.
  • Proven experience in a workforce that is focused on delivery of quality products and customer service to the highest standard.
  • Ability to drive and implement cultural and technological change with demonstrable application of advancing and emerging technology to enhance functional efficiency and continuous improvement
  • Creating and leading high-performance project teams that are generated on a solid foundation of building productive communication, creating innovative solutions and delivering great performance
  • Demonstrable track record of leading innovation in engineering/manufacturing operations to deliver performance improvement and enhanced profitability.
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent qualifications

2018 was another highly successful year for Ulster Carpets with turnover up by over 11% to over £76m.
